Vol. 345 No. 11

Written Answers. - Income Tax Demand.

361.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason the tax office have sought a tax payment of £410 from a person (details supplied) in County Limerick.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a recent review of the taxpayer's liability for the year 1982-83 revealed an underpayment. The underpayment arose because an insufficient amount had been estimated in the tax-free allowances at the commencement of the year to cover non-PAYE income.

On 26 September 1983, the inspector of taxes issued a PAYE balancing statement, showing details of the liability, and the taxpayer was requested to submit proposals for payment of the tax due.
