Vol. 345 No. 11

Written Answers. - Income Tax Refunds.

357.

asked the Minister for Finance when a refund of income tax will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and the reason for the delay in payment.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that reviews of the taxpayer's liabilities for the years 1977-78 to 1982-83, inclusive, have been made by the inspector of taxes. As a result of the review it transpired that tax had been overpaid. A cheque for the amount overpaid will be issued at an early date. Because the review covered a period of six years there has been some unavoidable delay in bringing the matter to finality.

358.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax refund will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork as he is now unemployed and urgently needs the refund to pay outstanding debts.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that, on the basis of the information supplied, they are unable to trace the taxpayer in their records. If the correct serial number is supplied, the matter will be examined.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax refund will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork as he has been waiting for the refund for a considerable time; and if he will expedite payment.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer ceased employment on 11 October 1983. A claim for a tax refund on the grounds of unemployment was received by the inspector of taxes on 25 October 1983. The claim has been dealt with and a refund of the tax over-deducted from his earnings in the current year should reach the taxpayer shortly.

The inspector is unable to review the tax liabilities for the years 1981-82 and 1982-83 in this case until details of pay and tax deducted for those years are supplied by the taxpayer.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that there is no refund of tax due in this case. The taxpayer's liability for the year 1982-83 was recently reviewed by the inspector of taxes and an underpayment arose, details of which will be issued shortly.
