I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the certificate of tax-free allowances at present being operated by the employer was issued in August 1983 on the basis of the information available to the inspector of taxes. The allowances are reduced by an amount equivalent to other income which is received by the taxpayer without deduction of tax.
The taxpayer was self-employed up to 4 May 1983 and has not submitted a return of income or financial accounts to the inspector of taxes for the current year. The inspector will not be in a position to review the allowances until such time as these details are supplied.
