Vol. 345 No. 12

Written Answers. - Ambulance Service Telephone Number.

286.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that the telephone number listed for the Eastern Health Board ambulance service is incorrect and has been so for the past two years; and the steps he intends to take to advise the general public of this fact.

I am aware that the telephone number listed for the Eastern Health Board Ambulance Service is incorrect and has been so for the past two years. The Eastern Health Board have been in touch with the Department of Posts and Telegraphs on several occasions pointing out the error and asking for a correct listing.

The general public are aware of the 999 emergency number which puts them in direct touch with the accident and emergency ambulance service should they require it. It is the board's policy not to accept requests from the general public to provide transport in non-emergency situations. However, a card has been circulated to general practitioners informing them of the correct number.
