Vol. 346 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Galway School Extensions.

458.

asked the Minister for Education when a grant for additional classrooms to Our Lady's college, Gort, County Galway, will be paid; and the reason for the continuing delay in the payment of this grant.

The provision of the classrooms in question proceeded without the prior approval of the Department in contravention of the requirements of the building grant scheme for secondary schools.

The question of whether the particular circumstances of the case would warrant a retrospective grant payment is being considered in the Department. When a decision has been made, the manager will be informed at once.

459.

asked the Minister for Education the reasons an extension to a national school (details supplied) in County Galway has not commenced; the number of classrooms it is proposed to build in the extension; the date on which the extension will be sanctioned; and the amount of money allocated for it.

The proposed additional accommodation to be provided at Fohenagh national school, Ballinasloe, County Galway, comprises one classroom and a general purposes room.

The present position of the extension scheme is as stated in my reply to the Deputy's question of 2 November 1983 about this school.
