There are no regulations or by-laws made in my Department relating to the erection or maintenance of electric power cables. However, the Electricity (Supply) (Amendment) Act, 1949, section 2, authorises the ESB to make regulations:
(a) for any purpose connected with the generation, transmission, distribution or use of electricity;
(b) for any purpose connected with the performance by the Board of their powers, duties or functions.
I am informed by the board that no such regulations have been made in relation to the erection or maintenance of electric power cables. The board assure me, however, that in the operation and maintenance of all equipment they operate to the highest international standards and codes of practice.
