asked the Minister for Finance when a satisfactory financial settlement will be reached in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who suffered severe hardship due to Boyne drainage works; if he is aware that detailed statements of accounts have been furnished on his behalf and that no reply has been received to his letter of November 1982 and in view of the social circumstances appertaining in this case if he will arrange for resumed negotiations aimed at leading to an equitable solution.

The details furnished in respect of this claim have been considered by the Commissioners of Public Works and it is their intention to have the negotiations resumed this week. I cannot, at this stage, say if and when agreement will be reached.
