Vol. 346 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Galway Water Scheme.

254.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position on the Mountbellew water supply scheme, County Galway; and the area that it will serve when it is completed.

Contract documents for the Mountbellew water supply scheme have been submitted to my Department by Galway County Council and are under consideration at present. Having regard to the need to conserve capital for schemes of the highest priority in progress or getting to construction at present, in Galway and throughout the country, I regret I cannot indicate at this stage when I will be in a position to convey a decision on the Mountbellew scheme to the local authority.

The scheme when completed will serve the town of Mountbellew, its immediate environs and the rural area surrounding the town. The scheme will also provide for future group water scheme expansion in the Mountbellew area.
