Vol. 346 No. 2

Written Answers. - Carnmore (Galway) Airport.

277.

asked the Minister for Transport if he is aware that the people of the Aran Islands are completely dependent on Carnmore airport, County Galway, for their communications with the mainland, that the airport is privately owned and that there is a grave danger that the airport could be closed, thus depriving the people of the islands of their link with the mainland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

278.

asked the Minister for Transport if he is aware that Deputies and Senators of all political parties, Galway County Council and Galway Corporation support the project of the Galway Chamber of Commerce in regard to the purchase of Carnmore airport, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

279.

asked the Minister for Transport if he intends to support the efforts of the Galway Chamber of Commerce to purchase Carnmore airport, County Galway, with a view to making it a public amenity and developing it as a modern all-weather facility for the benefit of the people of County Galway and in particular the people of the Aran Islands; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 277, 278 and 279 together.

The question of financial assistance for the Carnmore airport project is being considered in the context of the 1984 capital Estimates.
