Limerick East): I am informed by the Garda authorities that there have been a number of attacks in recent months on county council rent collectors in the Tallaght area and that this is a matter of particular concern. Special measures are being taken by the Garda, in consultation with the representatives of the rent collectors, in an effort to combat this type of crime. As the House will appreciate, the specific measures being taken are a matter for the professional judgment of the Garda Síochána and must, moreover, be kept confidential as publication of details of the measures would militate against their effectiveness.
