Pensions of CIE ex-salaried staff are revised on 1 July each year to bring them to the level they would be had the pensioner retired on that date. Pensions of CIE ex-wages grades employees are similarly revised each year up to the maximum level of pension payable under the existing wages grades pension scheme.
As I indicated in my reply on 21 April 1983, negotiations on a revised pension scheme for the CIE wages grades employees are in progress at working party level between CIE and the trade unions, the proposed scheme to be considered by the Government on the basis of prevailing financial circumstances when it is finalised. Arrangements for revisions in the pensions of ex-employees will fall to be considered when the outcome of these negotiations is known.
