Vol. 346 No. 9

Written Answers. - Safeguarding CU Premises.

615.

asked the Minister for Justice if security guards will be provided to safeguard the people and money in a credit union premises (details supplied) in County Meath every Saturday evening while they are transferring the money to the night safe.

Limerick East): The term “security guards” is usually taken to mean persons employed on guard duties by private security companies. The provision of any such service would be a matter for the credit union concerned.

The extent of protection to be provided by the Garda Síochána in any individual case is a matter for the professional judgment of the Garda. I am informed by the Garda authorities that in this case certain security arrangements are in operation. The measures being taken must, however, be kept confidental as publication of details of the measures would militate against their effectiveness.
