At my request the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards is preparing urgently an Irish standard for tyres. I intend that this standard will be mandatory in accordance with section 44 of the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961.
The origins and markings on imported tyres are matters appropriate to the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism.
