Regulation No. (EEC) 18 20/80, which governs this scheme is very strict with regard to eligibility. Article 4 of the regulation states that applicants who qualify for grant aid must be principally dependent on agriculture for their income.
The person referred to by the Deputy first applied in March 1983 but was deemed to be ineligible on the basis of the information provided.
A second application was received in October. Additional information was sought and was received in my Department on Friday, 9 December. This is now under consideration. A final decision on the matter will be reached without delay and the individual concerned will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.
