Vol. 346 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Galway Railway Crossing.

357.

asked the Minister for Transport if he will request CIE to erect an automatic railway crossing at Garraun, Oranmore, County Galway, because of the increasing amount of traffic using this road and the highly dangerous situation which now exists due to the existence of open gates which are unattended.

CIE intend to automate Garraun level crossing by the substitution of lights and bells for the existing gates and it is envisaged that Galway County Council will bear 50 per cent of the cost. Before automation can proceed, it will be necessary for the council to improve the approach road to the crossing. I understand that this work is well in hands with about half the work completed.
