I propose to take Questions Nos. 140, 141 and 142 together.

The pupils in question live within three miles of the nearest post-primary school and within three miles of the schools they attend. Therefore, they are not eligible for school transport under the terms of the school transport scheme.

In the circumstances, I do not see that any useful purpose would be served by receiving a deputation on the matter.

asked the Minister for Education the reason the CIE school transport section are demanding that a stamped-addressed envelope be included for the return of tickets.

Apart from being normal business practice, the requirement that a stamped-addressed return envelope should be supplied by the parent ensures that the process of issuing tickets from the CIE school transport offices is speeded up considerably. There is also less likelihood of tickets going astray. This practice has been in existence since 1977 in the case of concessionary fare-paying pupils.
