asked the Minister for the Public Service if he is aware that a letter has been issued by the Civil Service Commission to post-primary schools stating that they find it necessary to suspend the special information service which they had been giving to the schools in recent years; if he is in agreement with this notice; and, if not, the action he intends to take in the matter.

The decision of the Civil Service Commissioners, in the interests of economy, to suspend the practice of issuing special circulars to post-primary schools about competitions for school leavers was brought to my attention recently. I understand they are examining the situation so as to ensure that the maximum amount of information is made available to school-leavers and job applicants while taking public expenditure constraints into account.
The Deputy will be aware that Civil Service Commission competitions are advertised in the daily newspapers and on radio.
