Vol. 347 No. 6

Written Answers. - Southern Regional Fisheries Board Vacancy.

221.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will arrange to have the vacant post of inspector filled in the western area under the Southern Regional Fisheries Board; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The recruitment of staff by the Southern Regional Fisheries Board is a matter for the board itself. The board must, however, comply with Government policy on the filling of posts in the public sector which allows only one out of every three vacancies which have arisen since 23 December 1981 to be filled. The only exception to this arrangement arises where the number of vacancies in a particular grade is greater than one third of the number of posts in that grade. As the vacancy for inspector in the western area of the Southern Fsiheries Region does not meet these requirements the post is not fillable.
