Vol. 347 No. 7

Written Answers. - Speed Limit Sanctions.

276.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the two year delay by his Department in sanctioning extensions to speed limits which were submitted by Limerick County Council for approval.

I do not consider that there was any undue delay on the part of my Department in this matter. As indicated in my reply to Question No. 265 put down by the Deputy on 18 January 1984, the original applications submitted by Limerick County Council were the subject of consultations between the Department and the Council. Arising from these consultations, revised proposals were submitted by the Council on 30 November 1983, which were accompanied by further speed limit proposals. Outstanding information required for the drafting of revised speed limit regulations was obtained from the council on 27 January and I now expect to be in a position to make the necessary regulations by the end of this month.
