asked the Minister for the Public Service the number of applicants by grade from each Government Department who applied for the recent inter-departmental competition which was arranged by his Department for promotion to assistant principal (standard scale); and the number by grade from each Government Department called for the final interview.

I am informed by the Civil Service Commissioners, who conducted the competition, that the supply of information on applications and callings for first interview broken down by number and grade could lead to the identification of unsuccessful candidates in some cases. This would be contrary to the established policy of the commissioners.
