asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if there are any proposals for the setting up of new industry in County Waterford.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that they have extensive facilities available in County Waterford for industrial development. Over 212,000 sq. ft. of advance factory space has been provided and there are over 300 acres of industrial land at seven locations throughout the county.

At the end of last year two new projects were announced for County Waterford. Calmark-Killeen which has commenced operations in Cappoquin expects to employ 20 people by the end of this year with further recruitment in subsequent years. A new company, O'Reilly's Natural Sea Foods, which was approved under the IDA enterprise development scheme has announced its intention to locate in County Waterford. The company expects to employ 50 people within two years.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the reason Waterford city has not received the same treatment as Cork city by the Government as Waterford has a higher rate of youth unemployment.

I am assured by the Industrial Development Authority that they are giving priority to the promotion of manufacturing industry in Waterford city. In 1983 manufacturing employment in Waterford city rose by 2 per cent which was better than the national trend.

There are extensive facilities available for further industrial development in the city. These include two advance factories of 43,400 sq. ft. and two privately financed factories of 44,800/27,000 sq. ft. In addition two cluster units of 5,000 sq. ft. and seven small units are available for suitable small industries.
