The attached tabular statement sets out the number of public health nurses in the community care areas of the health boards. Assignments are to community care areas rather than counties.
Sanction to the filling of posts of senior public health nurse was given to the North-Eastern Health Board, in conjunction with other health boards in April 1982. Because of the constraints in the appointment of additional staff in the public service, introduction of the new grade was to be by substitution for existing posts. In February 1983 sanction was given to the North-Eastern Health Board to suppress two posts of trainee public health nurse and one post of public health nurse in favour of a senior post in each community care area. However, the board have not found it possible to proceed with the making of the appointment in Louth.
