Vol. 347 No. 12

Written Answers. - General Medical Services.

392.

asked the Minister for Health the number of students who have been removed from the general medical services scheme as a result of his recent decision.

I presume the recent decision to which the Deputy refers is the decision to withdraw general medical services from some persons between the ages of 16 and 25 as provided for in the Health Services (No. 3) Regulations, 1983.

The total number of students removed from the general medical services register in any area at any point in time is not routinely available in my Department. This information will tend to vary from day to day as health boards proceed with the task of implementing the regulations. I suggest, therefore, that the Deputy might get in touch with the appropriate health boards in order to get the most up-to-date statistical information available which he requires on this matter. It might be advisable, however, to wait for some weeks until the position stabilises.
