Vol. 347 No. 12

Written Answers. - Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956.

482.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that summonses have been served on several members of the GAA for being involved in lotteries; if he is aware that those lotteries are being held to finance the improvement of the facilities of GAA clubs (by purchasing playing fields etc.); and if in view of the fact that a lottery is the best way for such clubs to raise money, he will be prepared to exempt the GAA from the operation of section 21 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956.

Limerick East): It would be inappropriate for me to comment on matters which, according to the terms of the Deputy's question, are sub judice. In any event, I have no authority to exempt anybody from the operation of section 21 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956.
