The stamp programme for any year is decided about 18 months in advance and accordingly the 1985 stamp programme was decided on by the Government last year.
No formal request has been received by me to date for the issue of a stamp to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Charter of Cork. However, I have learned from An Post that a letter was received recently by them from the Lord Mayor of Cork in the mistaken belief that this was a matter for them. I have also received recently representations from Deputies in the area.
Late additions to the stamp programme are difficult but, nonetheless, the representations are being considered and I expect to be in a position to make an announcement shortly.
