The provision of a dog shelter in this case is a matter for Kildare County Council. I understand, however, that the council are reluctant to enter into new commitments unless acceptable arrangements can be made for their long-term financing. The council, accordingly, have sought contributions from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and from the Kildare branch of the Irish Farmers' Association towards the annual running costs of the proposed shelter and will review the position in the light of the response to these requests.
