Vol. 348 No. 3

Written Answers. - Louth County Council Loan Applications.

360.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason permission to raise a loan for the purchase of building land in County Louth has been refused to Louth County Council.

Last April Louth County Council sought my approval to a proposal to raise a loan to purchase land for its house building programme but I considered the proposal to be costly and requested them to seek more economic borrowing terms. The council have now notified my Department that improved terms have been obtained, have submitted a revised proposal which is under consideration and I hope to issue a decision on the matter in the near future.

andMr. Faulkner asked the Minister for the Environment when a sanction to raise a loan from the local loans fund to assist a number of group water schemes in the county will be forthcoming to Louth County Council.

362.

andMr. Faulkner asked the Minister for the Environment when the sanction to raise a loan from the local loans fund to assist Broganstown, Charleville group water scheme in County Louth will be forthcoming to Louth County Council.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 361 and 362 together. Louth County Council applied on 29 July 1983 for sanction to raise a loan of £150,000 to cover the cost of special contributions towards seven group water schemes in the county; as the making of contributions by the local authority towards these schemes had not been dealt with in my Department the request for loan sanction at that stage was premature.

The position now is that special contributions of £40,000 in one case and £22,595 in another have been approved; the loan for the former Dunbin scheme has been approved and the loan for the latter (Charleville/Braganstown scheme is being processed. The proposals in relation to the remaining schemes are under examination in my Department.
