Vol. 348 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Dublin Footbridge.

363.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will agree to the provision of a footbridge on the Swords by-pass at Drynam roundabout.

The contract for the Swords by-pass provides for the construction of pedestrian overbridges at Chapel Lane and at Lawless Memorial Park. Dublin County Council have sought approval to the provisions of a further pedestrian overbridge in the vicinity of Drynam/Foxwood. It is also understood that the council have received representations concerning the provision of a pedestrian overbridge at Seatown Lane. I understand that the provision of the four overbridges would cost in the region of £400,000.

Having regard to the limitations on the State funds available for road grants, I have requested the council to undertake a review of the by-pass scheme in order to identify the overall needs of pedestrians affected by it and how these needs can best be catered for at reasonable cost. I will consider the matter further on receipt of the council's report.
