Vol. 348 No. 3

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

376.

asked the Minister for Finance when a redundancy payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly who was employed by the Office of Public Works in Tullamore.

The person named in the question has been employed by the Commissioners of Public Works since 1968 as a seasonal worker on the summer maintenance of the Brosna catchment drainage scheme. The breaks in his employment between the 1981 and 1982 seasons and the 1982 and 1983 seasons each exceeded 26 consecutive weeks. His continuity of employment for the purposes of the Redundancy Payments Acts has therefore been broken and in the circumstances he does not have the necessary two years continuous service to qualify for redundancy payments.

The person named in the question has recently appealed this decision to the Employment Appeals Tribunal. The question of his entitlement to redundancy payment now rests with that body. No date for a hearing of this case has, as yet, been set by the Employment Appeals Tribunal.
