Vol. 348 No. 5

Written Answers. - Coeliac Children.

392.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he will consider subsidising the special foodstuffs required by coeliac children in view of the cost and the resulting economic hardship to their parents; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by my predecessor on 22 November 1983 (Official Report Volume 346 No. 1, columns 12 and 13) when a similar question was asked in respect of gluten-free bread. The question of subsidising special food-stuffs required by coeliac children is a matter for the Minister for Health to determine on medical considerations.
