I propose to publish a White Paper on industrial policy in the near future. The White Paper will represent the Government's response to the Telesis and NESC Reports on Industrial Policy. It will also reflect an analysis of these reports, and other relevant matters, carried out by an inter-departmental committee.
The two main themes in the White Paper will be (i) the improvement in the business environment designed to improve competitiveness and to foster greater flexibility in the economy and (ii) greater selectivity and efficiency in our industrial and marketing incentives.
