asked the Minister for Communications if he will list the names and addresses of the individuals operating under licences issued under section 8 of the Road Transport Act, 1978.

It is assumed that the question refers to operators based in the State and to licences issued under section 8 of the Road Transport Act, 1971, as amended by section 4 of the Road Transport Act, 1978. These licences expire on 30 September each year. The number of operators currently licensed is 177. The names and addresses of the operators cannot readily be provided and the amount of time involved in listing them would not be warranted.

asked the Minister for Communications the criteria used to select the individuals entitled to licences issued under Section 8 of the Road Transport Act, 1978.

It is assumed that the question refers to individuals based in the State. In order to qualify for a licence under section 8 of the Road Transport Act, 1971, as amended by section 4 of the Road Transport Act, 1978, a person must hold an international road freight certificate, complete the appropriate application form and pay the prescribed fee.

asked the Minister for Communications the number of licences issued under section 8 of the Road Transport Act, 1978.

It is assumed that the question refers to licences issued to operators based in the State. The number of licences issued to date under section 8 of the Road Transport Act, 1971, as amended by section 4 of the Road Transport Act, 1978, is 1,851, of which 368 remain valid.
