Vol. 348 No. 8

Written Answers. - Mayo School.

419.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the deplorable conditions that exist at a national school (details supplied) in County Mayo especially in relation to the roof and the water supply; and the steps he will take to have improvements carried out to this school urgently.

I am aware that conditions at Creevagh national school, Ballina, County Mayo, are unsatisfactory and that the roof particularly is in poor condition. Following a recent inspection, the Office of Public Works are now making a full report to the Department of Education on the works they consider necessary if the existing school is to be retained. The question of the sanction of a grant towards the cost of the works is one for the Department of Education.

Procurement of a satisfactory water supply is a matter for the manager of the school and he has been advised to seek an alternative supply from a nearby spring well.
