Vol. 348 No. 8

Written Answers. - Roscommon Hospital Posts.

422.

asked the Minister for Health if he will confirm when the post of a replacement consultant paediatrician at the County Hospital, Roscommon was originally approved by his Department.

The replacement consultant paediatrician post at Roscommon hospital was approved by my Department on 14 November 1983.

423.

asked the Minister for Health when the appointment of a consultant obstetrician-gynaecologist at the County Hospital, Roscommon, was originally approved and if he has provided for funding of the post and back up staff in his Department's Estimates for 1984.

The Western Health Board approved the appointment in February 1982. The appointee has indicated that he will not accept the post until support staff is provided.

The health board has sought approval to 14 additional staff for the maternity unit. In view of the current financial situation and the Government's policy in relation to the restriction of numbers employed in the public sector I am not in a position at present to provide the resources for the support staff sought.
