Vol. 348 No. 9

Written Answers. - Non-payment of Allowances.

401.

asked the Minister for Justice the reasons for the delay in paying allowances to a person (details supplied) in County Louth; the reason the rent allowance, which was conceded by arbitration in September 1982, has not been paid in his allowance of gratuity since January 1983; when this payment will be made; when all arrears due to him will be paid; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick East): The report of the arbitration board containing the recommendation that certain allowances payable to members of the Garda Síochána should be made pensionable was made in March and was accepted in May 1983. The implementation of the recommendation, including the matter of superannuation contributions to be made in respect of these allowances, is being considered in consultation with the representative associations. As soon as the matter is finalised all members concerned, including those who have retired since 1 October 1982, the operative date of the award, will be informed of the position as it affects them.
