Vol. 348 No. 11

Written Answers. - Cleaners' Pay.

537.

asked the Minister for Education the conditions and hourly rates of pay of office cleaners used in her Department; and whether such cleaners are directly employed by her Department, or by an outside agency.

The conditions of service applying to cleaners directly employed by my Department are those which apply to unestablished civil servants generally. Their rates of pay are determined from time to time by the Minister for the Public Service. At present, the weekly rate is £106.61. Part-time cleaners employed by my Department are paid at an hourly rate which is £2.79½ at present. The cleaning of some of my Department's Dublin offices is undertaken by outside agencies on a contract basis. I am not in a position to inform the Deputy of the terms of employment of the cleaners employed by these agencies.
