Vol. 348 No. 11

Written Answers. - Portlaw (Waterford) Primary School.

538.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the long delay in having a new primary school provided at Portlaw, County Waterford, and the up-to-date position on the matter.

Following careful consideration of the various options in relation to the provision of suitable accommodation for the boys' national school at Portlaw, County Waterford, my Department in October 1981 approved a sketch scheme for a new school building. It was indicated to the school authorities that grant sanction would have to await agreement on the local contribution and the production of evidence of satisfactory title to the site of the proposed new school. These matters were not finally disposed of until October of last year. In January of this year my Department sanctioned a grant for the new school and instructed the Commissioners of Public Works to prepare contract documentation. The position, therefore, is that this project is at the detail design stage and as soon as the necessary documentation is available the question of inviting tenders will be considered.
