Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Agriculture the farm development grants that are currently available from his Department.

The following aids for farm development are available from my Department.

1. Farm Modernisation Scheme

Grant-aid as a percentage of approved cost is as follows:

An interest subsidy equivalent to a capital grant of 15% is available to Commercial farmers.

Grant-aid at the rate of 40% of approved cost is available for launching aids towards the cost of establishing farm groups under the farm modernisation scheme. At present the minimum grant is £2,120 and the maximum is £6,350.

2. Western Drainage Scheme

Grant: 70% of approved cost of field drainage.

3. Programme for Western Development

Land Improvement

Grant: 70% of approved cost for land improvement.

80% of approved cost for necessary on-farm roads in the case of commonages and mountain and hill pastures.

Scheme for the Orientation of Agricultural Production

Grant: 35% of approved cost for farm buildings.

25% of approved cost for fixed assets.

Calf to Beef Interest Subsidy

Interest subsidy not exceeding 16% on a loan of up to £100 per animal for two years on each calf entering the system in the first or second year of the plan.

Shelter Belts Scheme

Grant: up to 80% of approved cost of trees and fencing (maximum of £800 per hectare).
