Vol. 349 No. 6

Written Answers. - Mount Merrion Garda Strength.

590.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will arrange for extra gardaí to be allocated to the Mount Merrion area in view of the high level of crime.

Limerick East): The precise arrangements for the policing of particular areas are primarily a matter for the local Garda officers, having regard to available resources, local circumstances and other demands on Garda services.

The Garda authorities have informed me that the current strength at Blackrock station, which serves the Mount Merrion area, is the maximum that can be provided at present having regard to overall resources and other demands on Garda services but the matter will be kept under review.

As regards the incidence of crime in the Mount Merrion area, the authorities have informed me that the local gardaí are paying particular attention to the high incidence of burglaries, particularly house burglaries, in the Blackrock Garda sub-district as a whole and that every effort is being made to deal with the situation by providing foot and mobile patrols throughout the sub-district as frequently as possible.
