Vol. 349 No. 6

Written Answers. - Remedial Teachers.

597.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the particular need in the Brookfield area of Tallaght, County Dublin, a remedial teacher will be provided as a matter of urgency for St. Brigid's national school, Brookfield, Tallaght, County Dublin.

The applications of schools for remedial teaching posts are examined by my Department and posts are allocated to the schools from the available allocation of teachers in accordance with a priority of need.

An application recently received from St. Brigid's national school, Brookfield, Tallaght, for the appointment of a remedial teacher is under examination in my Department and will be considered in the circumstances obtaining in relation to the creation of any such posts for the 1984-1985 school year.

598.

asked the Minister for Education if she will agree to the request from the Convent of Mercy national school and Gort boys national school for the appointment of a remedial teacher on a shared basis because of the large number of itinerant children attending both schools who are in need of specialist teaching assistance.

The question is taken as referring to the application by the authorities of the Gort national schools for the appointment on a shared basis of a special class teacher to cater for travelling children attending the two schools. This application is being examined by my Department and I shall advise the Deputy of the outcome in due course.
