Dáil Éireann díospóireacht -
Wednesday, 2 May 1984

Vol. 350 No. 1

Adjournment of Dáil.

It is proposed to adjourn until 10.30 a.m. tomorrow.

On behalf of The Workers' Party I would like to register our objection to this adjournment. I believe it is downgrading the importance of this House against the Forum. The parties to the Forum should have taken this into consideration and issued their report either on Tuesday or on Friday, when the Dáil was not in session. I would like to say that I hope the adjournment will not mean using the guillotine on the Finance Bill as it was used very severely on the Social Welfare Bill and that this adjournment will not lead to any cut in the discussion on the Finance Bill.

There is one little point on that. I would like to reassure Deputy Mac Giolla that for our part, as the main Opposition party, we are prepared to give three hours of Private Members' Time to discussion of the Finance Bill to make up for any loss caused by today's adjournment.

Agreed.
