The planning of the proposed Oranmore by-pass is primarily a matter for Galway County Council. The council's outline proposals for the by-pass were approved by my Department on 4 November 1983 subject to arrangements for the acquisition of land required for the scheme. A compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of the land has been made by the council and a public local inquiry into objections to the order was held on 6 March 1984. I will determine the order as soon as possible.
