Vol. 350 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Rathfarnham (Dublin) Garda Strength.

726.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will take whatever steps are appropriate to provide for additional gardaí to be assigned to Rathfarnham Garda Station, Dublin, so that the station is in a position to provide regular foot patrols by members of the Garda in the large number of housing estates situated in the area covered by the station.

Limerick East): The detailed deployment of Garda manpower is a matter for the Garda authorities who review the strength assigned to the various stations from time to time to take account of changing needs and circumstances.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that since May 1982, 11 additional gardaí have been allocated to Rathfarnham station and the question of further increases in strength there will be kept under review according as the extra manpower now in training becomes available for assignment.

As regards the foot patrolling arrangements for residential areas in the Rathfarnham Garda sub-district, the Garda authorities report that all areas receive as much attention as possible from foot patrols having regard to available resources, local circumstances, other demands on Garda services and the time of day or night. In addition, mobile patrols are operated to the maximum extent possible by uniform and plain-clothes units based at Rathfarnham and the question of providing improved patrolling arrangements for the sub-district generally will be kept under review.
