Vol. 350 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - School Social Workers.

730.

asked the Minister for Education the number of schools which have social workers attached to them; her views on the urgency of this in the light of recent events; and her plans in this matter.

There are no social workers in receipt of salary from my Department in ordinary primary or second level schools. The special schools at Finglas, Clonmel and Lusk each have welfare officers who are employed by the Department of Justice. The four youth encounter projects (two in Dublin and one each in Cork and Limerick) each have a welfare officer attached to them, on secondment from the Department of Justice.
