The cost to Vote 9 Public Works and Buildings in the 1983 financial year for each Government Department for rent, rates, fitting out, adaptation and furnishing of leased accommodation is set out in the following table.
Rent and rates for the Department of Posts and Telegraphs were paid from the vote for that Department.
It is not a function of the Office of Public Works to provide accommodation for semi-State bodies. However in a number of cases premises have been subleased to semi-State and other bodies. The rent paid for these premises in 1983 amounted to £668,665 and is included in the statement. This sum is recouped from the bodies concerned.
