Vol. 350 No. 2

Written Answers. - VEC Supplementary Grants.

580.

asked the Minister for Education the reason County Wexford VEC did not get equivalent supplementary grants compared to other VECs for 1983; how the figures compared with other VECs; what will now be done about the shortfall in Wexford; and if there are any statutory loan repayments to the committee for 1983.

The amount allocated to the County Wexford Vocational Education Committee in 1983 in addition to the original allocation was £653,303. This amount included the cost of teachers' pay for the period September to December 1983, the cost of the 1983 Public Service Pay agreement and a sum for essential non-pay purposes.

I am satisfied that the allocation was fair and equitable in the context of the allocations to the other committees with due regard to the varying circumstances of the committees.

Sufficient funds were made available to County Wexford Vocational Education Committee to enable it to discharge fully its statutory loan repayments in 1983. Any debit balance as at 31 December 1983 will be a charge on the committee's financial allocation for 1984.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the long delay in paying the final instalment to the contractors who built a vocational school (details supplied) in County Kerry; and when the balance of money due will be paid having regard to the fact that County Kerry VEC cannot make payment without her prior approval.

I am not aware of any undue delay in processing the final account for the vocational school in question. The examination of the documentation submitted to my Department in connection with the final account is expected to be completed shortly. My Department will then be in contact with the County Kerry Vocational Education Committee.
