Figures of non-nationals as such resident here are not compiled. Under the aliens law, aliens generally who are resident here for three months or more are required to register with the Garda Síochána and on 31 December 1983 the number so registered was 19,527.
The figure for each nationality involved is shown hereunder. Aliens in this context does not include people born in Britain and, in addition, certain categories of aliens (e.g. children under 16) are exempt from the requirement to register.
