Vol. 350 No. 5

Written Answers. - EEC Regional Fund.

539.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money to be spent in each county in 1984 from the EEC regional fund; and if he will outline the kind of projects getting such support.

Receipts from the European Regional Development Fund are treated as a recoupment of Exchequer expenditure on the assisted projects and are used to increase the overall level of resources of the public capital programme for regional development. Accordingly, it would not be meaningful, and would not represent a true picture of the operation of the fund in Ireland, to provide an apportionment of fund expenditure on a county basis. The overall receipts from the fund in 1984 are estimated at £74 million.

The kind of projects which are submitted for fund support are infrastructural development projects, mainly in the areas of telecommunications, roads, water supply and sewerage, and industrial development projects.
