Vol. 351 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Galway School Transport.

583.

asked the Minister for Education if she will make a special concession in the case of the school children attending Moneenageisha vocational school from the Maree and Clarinbridge areas, County Galway, so that they can avail of free school transport to this school in view of the fact that they have been attending the school for a number of years and in view of the fact that there is adequate accommodation on the bus to carry those students free of charge.

The Maree and Clarinbridge areas are within the Oranmore catchment area and the school in Oranmore provides adequate courses at junior and senior cycle levels. Senior cycle pupils taking certain practical subjects are provided with transport to Moneenageisha Vocational School.

Junior cycle pupils from the areas in question who are attending Moneenageisha qualify only for catchment boundary transport to that centre under the usual conditions. Charges at the appropriate rates (unless waived in cases of parents or legal guardians holding medical cards) must be paid in respect of pupils in receipt of transport facilities to postprimary centres.
