These companies currently employ 82 people and have the potential to provide employment for 180 people at full production.

During 1983 the IDA also approved grant assistance for 156 projects with a total potential of 557 jobs for County Galway. The fixed asset investment associated with these projects will amount to £14 million towards which the IDA will provide grant assistance of £7.8 million.

Additionally, in recent years the IDA have committed substantial resources in grants to the expansion of existing industries and the establishment of new projects. Many of these, which are still engaged in their investment programmes, provided a substantial number of new jobs in 1983 and will continue to provide new employment opportunities as they build up to full production.

As part of their strategy to develop high technology small industry projects a small business development centre comprising eight industrial units has been provided at UCG. Five of these units are now occupied.

The IDA have a total of 242,000 sq. ft. of factory space ranging in size from 500 to 71,000 sq. ft. at seven locations and 248 acres of land at 14 locations available for industrial development in the county. A further 11 small industry units totalling 22,500 sq. ft. are reserved for industrial projects.

The IDA will continue to actively promote County Galway and the western region in general for industrial investment.
